Amy Nam’s original piece Somber Gloaming – mvt. I “Evening Ritual” is for two lever or pedal harps and organ. Commissioned by Rachel Brandwein for premiere at the 2022 American Harp Society National Conference, this first movement of Somber Gloaming conveys the nostalgia of the composer’s childhood memories of being overcome by joy and wonder at the sight of the sunset.

The above recording is by Aaron David Miller, organ, and Rachel Brandwein and Amy Nam, harps.

While adaptable for pedal harp, this piece is notated for lever harp. The Harp 1 part is playable on a full-sized lever harp, and the Harp 2 part is playable on a smaller lever harp (minimum range: B3 to E6) with no lever changes required after the initial setting.
