More about “Plywe Kacza”
from Alina Bzhezhinska:
The Ukrainian traditional song “Plywe Kacza” translates literally to “the duckling swims.” The lyrics are a dialogue between a mother and a son going off to war. As long as there have been wars, there have been sad songs about war and losing children or loved ones to the devastation of war.
“My dear mother, what will happen to me if I die in a foreign land?” “Well, my dearest, you will be buried by other people.”
I made the harp arrangement for this song in 2014 when I was praying for peace in Ukraine. Now this song sounds very important again. I pray for peace, and I would like the harpists from around the world to join me.
