Hi Jessica, Tony has a good suggestion to go to Harps Unlimited at the Manhatten office. I would call for an appoinment to see the harps. Sometimes they have people from the store, I believe the manager is one of them, play out at different places in the City. The N.Y.Public Library is one of them. Maybe you could to one of those. I have found the people there to be very helpful and good to work with. In addition to their store, they might have some other ideas. I hope that you have a good time in

This is very timely information for me. I’ve been reduced to no more than 15 minutes at a time or suffer the consequences for at least the rest of the day.

There is a problem with the Wenger website involving their shipping rate. The student chair I believe David was referring to is quite inexpensive, but their shipping calculator will arrive at a fee higher than the chair. (Unless they’ve fixed it since I called them.)

I telephoned Wenger and found them to be extremely helpful. The correct shipping price was 25% of what the website quoted, so the entire chair with shipping and tax was a bit over $100. Well worth a try!

Thanks, David, for posting about this chair. I’m hoping at a minimum it will be able to double my sitting time so I can get a few sessions in per day.

I’m going to check out the Wenger chairs that David suggested. They look very comfortable. I’ve had two back surgeries, and I’m resisting a third 🙂 Anta’s chair sounds good too. Playing out isn’t the problem for me yet, but having something to practice on is becomming more important for me. I need one of Saul’s does everything and holds everything chair!

As far as I can tell, double strung harps still have levers, so it’s not really what I’m looking for.

The reason for getting a smaller harp would definitely be $$$. As far as trying out a cross-strung first, I don’t think that is very possible because I am from a small town in Northwestern Ontario, Canada (it’s a 24 hour drive to Toronto). There’s only me and one other harpist in town, and we both are self taught and playing folk harp.

There are two harpmakers in Winnipeg (the closest major city, 3 hours drive), Larry Fisher and Elizabeth Goosen. As far as I know, neither of them are making cross-strung harps.

I already have three harps: 34 string full levers by Fisherharps

32-string F,C,G levers by Camelot harps

and a 26-string flatsicle. I ordered the flatsicle from the States without trying it first. From where I live, I might as well just order a harp to be shipped to me, since the cost to travel to a harp fair would be so high.

Owww an all Ravel program…fantastic! That would be my dream gig! If you can get hold of some of the harp parts involved that can be useful. Sit right up front, on the harp side of the stage, and follow the music and what she/he is up to.

The Debussy is probably the Trio Sonata for flute, viola and harp. Interesting harp part, utilizes the mid range of the harp more so than the upper. I’d definitely try and get hold of that so you can follow the part, or familiarize yourself with it prior to the concert.

I used to always do this at my teachers harp concerts, and I remember the first time a student (somone elses!) did that to me..sat right in the harp cornor with his music, staring at me in a discerning way with pursed lips. It was scarey in a way! But also kind of nice to feel

If there were enough demands for decals and bumper stickers for harps, I might just go into business on the internet and sell them. But, I must test the market first. I am also an artist,
