Do you have a harp teacher with some experience to help you change it? I admit, I would call my tech Paul, and drive over to see him. I’m sorry if you don’t have that option. Did you check You Tube for a video? Best of luck. Sherj
Thanks Emma! They are pretty, but I thought Bubinga was very, VERY heavy. Heavy or not, they are still quite pretty. Just FYI, my girlfriend Donna owns a Style 17, bought very shortly after mine, and hers is one of the 47 string 17’s. Sherj
HI Sid and Eliza. The first thing I said when I went shopping for my Style 17 was “I don’t want a painted harp. I want natural wood.” When I found out they were discontinued, I had to “settle” for the black and bronze. It is stunning and I absolutely love it, despite my initial reluctance to purchase. It is the harp of my dreams. (And interesting enough, L&H are now reissuing some commemorative Style 17’s in celebration of their 150 year anniversary.

I own 2 Subaru Forresters. My older one, a 2006 is 2″ longer than my newer one which is a 2010. You can fit a full size concert grand in them, but it is VERY tight. A manager from Lyon and Healy told me that an Outback will carry a Lyon and Healy 23 easily, but they cost substantially more than the Forresters. There isn’t anything about the Forresters I dislike. I live in an area that is miserable with hills, snow and ice, and I won’t drive anything else, anymore. Hope this helps! SherjRachael, both are exceptional instruments and I would be happy to play and own either. I personally own 2 Blevins: an Encore 34, and Gwendolyn 29 and they are excellent. I have done business with both Dusty and Blevins, and they have been honorable in their dealings with me. It may be a matter of playing the particular instrument and seeing which one sings to you! My Encore is going on 11 years old, and I have had zero issues with it. Best of luck. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Michael, Paul Knoke, an Historical Harp Society member, harp player and technician, plays on a stunning Wurlitzer and is very generous about sharing his info. There is also a registration site for Wurlitzer’s. He posts occasionally to the forums.
Carl Swanson builds extra space into his upper register if you are able to find a used Swanson pedal harp. His semi-guilded Empire has always been my favorite harp.

Hi Donna! It’s nice to talk to you again. Dusty makes a perfectly fine harp so you can’t go wrong with them. I own 2 Blevins however and my Encore is a die hard. It never goes out of tune, it never breaks strings, and it is 10 years old now. (My other harp is a Gwendolyn Blevins.) I would just say if being able to move it and have as many strings as possible is your major concern, all the above models really are full size floor models and they have the weight to go with it. Certainly they are smaller and lighter than your Prelude. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. So choose the one you like best, maybe after talking to the makers. Again, both of them are very customer friendly. My only comment would be if possible, get Truitt levers instead of the Lovelands. Let us know what you decide, and good luck shopping.
