Having had some harpy hopes for my nephew, forget about it. The kid will do what the kid wants to do, and if it’s harp, it may not be with Grandma, but I hope it is harp anyway.

Casper Reardon has a solo segment in the movie “Young at Heart” which is posted on YouTube. See my thread on Casper for the link.

Some pianists or organists may be a bit stiff depending on their training, and their muscles are perhaps stronger than most harpists’, which affects their movement, perhaps for the better or perhaps less flexible. I haven’t been able to investigate closely enough, but I have seen commonalities.

He was like Wagner in more ways than one.

They are perfectly legible, but in older English-style engraving from the late 19th century or early 20th century. A little small but you can read and play from them.

There is a huge two-volume collection published by Dover, and inexpensive, called The Fitzwilliam Virginal Collection. This and a few others like it are the source for most or all of Byrd’s keyboard music and the others of his period.

Yes, but can you gather a group of harpists in the same room and have them all come out intact? I have always dreamed of that sort of thing. If we all lived in the same neighborhood. Wouldn’t it be neat to have a lounge for harpists, where we could do that?

Korg tuners have little trouble with those notes.

in reply to: Seeking post on “How to learn a piece of music” #164000

I suggest taking about one measure at a time, very relaxed and feel the coordination requirements, spell out the chords, listen to the balance between the notes, say the names of all the notes and pedals, then do the next measure. Do you have fingerings for it yet? It takes longer if you have to figure out your interpretation, too.

This could be legit or spam. The website looks official, but has no-one listed under music at all, and requires no credentials, and encourages people to teach without any credentials, which is suspect, spurious, fishy, creepy, dangerous, etc.

I’m not sure if this is spam or not or legit, but it does seem spurious, as it requires no credentials whatsoever to be listed as a teacher.

Yes, there is some disparity, depending on which master you studied with, and it may increase with generations to come. We are fortunate to have some video footage of Miss Lawrence playing and demonstrating, and it would be a worthy project to film several players for comparison or documentation. The biggest problem might be said to come with those who studied a short time, perhaps four years, and felt they were done because they got their degree. On the other hand,

in reply to: I need a computer program for composing and writing music #164032

I tried the free download, and after three days and reading the tutorial, I could not make it write a simple scale. Back to the pens. I love my c-thru rulers.

It’s great to see we have lots of choices. One more classic: Interlochen. I’m sure many or most of these programs will take a student who only wants lessons.
