Thanks soo much for your reply Carl!! I will keep you posted.
phyllis-adamsParticipantI studied this piece with Eddie. There is next to no editing! He expected me to play every note as written! Just great fingerings!!!
phyllis-adamsParticipantLots of “Monday Morning Quarterbacking” folks…. Most of us in Chicago are thrilled that she won and are eagerly looking forward to her arrival! We need a change of pace here – and I’m not refering to the Cubs who lose almost every game!
phyllis-adamsParticipantVery lovely picture! Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
phyllis-adamsParticipantIt’s not a state secret – Julie Ann Smith won… so it was a fair audition!
phyllis-adamsParticipantYeah…… I really like that one!!
phyllis-adamsParticipantFor those of us who were fortunate enough to study with this man, are truly saddened by his passing. We are thankful to his family for sharing him with us and the world of classical music lovers!
phyllis-adamsParticipantYes, the position is open and the dates have been corrected. The trick seems to be in getting them to respond to inquiries for specific audition repertoire.

Goes like a bat out of *#ll, so you really need to have the part memorized as there is virtually no time to think. Even the chords in the duo go quite quickly! And as David mentioned, a page tuner is mandatory if you cannot make an effective cut & paste part. Good luck – it IS worth the effort!

phyllis-adamsParticipantMy somewhat educated guess is that it was perhaps Karen Grimsey, the Marine Band Harpist. She’s played at the White House at least since the time when Clinton was President. She is probably someone that the Clinton’s probably knew quite well – in addition to

phyllis-adamsParticipantThank you Steve for all of your hard work. I t really was a great event and we are fortunate that PBS took the time and energy to produce this. Thanks again!!!!
phyllis-adamsParticipantYears ago, I was asked to play “We’ve Only Just Begun” for a very pregnant bride. Fortunately, the music director at Holy Name Cathedral backed me up in my assessment that i couldn’t play it because clearly she had not “just begun” but was almost finished! However, I continually am amazed at the number of brides who want the Arioso from Bach’s Cantata # 156 – the words of which are to the effect of “Here I stand with one foot in the grave”! I was also once asked to play the March of the Gladiators when the mothers of the couple were walking down the aisle. That didn’t happen either … haha.
phyllis-adamsParticipantIf you get Comcast, it is “On Demand” until June 30th – at least here in Chicago. Truly an outstanding documentary of any amazing competition! My only disappointment was that there was not more footage of Maria K. – the first prize winner, in performance. Her L&H recital was probably the best live harp performance anyone could hope to hear! Her CD is also amazing!
