ParticipantWhat special harp is Claire Jones performing on in the video connected to the official royal wedding website? Am assuming it was made by either Lyon-Healy or Salvi…. very pretty but a rather odd assortment of carvings on the base and column along with the soundboard detailing…… Am sort of assuming that each of these have some special Welsh significance….. Can anyone elaborate on this?

ParticipantI couldn’t find the video you meant, but do you mean this harp?
It was made by Salvi for Prince Charles a few years ago.

ParticipantOops that link doesn’t work well. Here’s an article that doesn’t have such a full view of the harp but does have more info about it:

ParticipantThat’s not the royal harp that was made when Catrin Finch was the royal harpist. This one is strikingly elegant, and do you know that it is a Salvi?

ParticipantWell, Saul, according to all the articles it is that harp. Why do you think it’s not?

ParticipantWasn’t Jemima Phillips the harpist when Salvi did the harp, incidentally?

ParticipantIf you go to Jemima Phillips’s website:
http://www.jemimaphillips.co.uk/
and click on Memorable Occasions, there are two photos of her playing this harp.
(Sorry, annoying flash site so I can’t link directly to photos.)

MemberThis harp was presented in 2006, when Jemima Phillips was royal harpist. The Prince of Wales’ web site says the harp is a Salvi when they announced Claire Jones’ appointment.

ParticipantLove the harp, want the dress. And an occasion to wear it.

ParticipantThe Prince of Wales commissioned Patrick Hawes to compose a work for harp an orchestra celebrating his home at Highgrove. It is called The Highgrove Suite and was performed by Claire Jones in a special concert there. A TV programme captured some glimpses of the rehearsal but she seemed to be playing her own Salvi and not the Royal harp. It is a really beautiful piece of music available on CD or downloadable from itunes. I highly recommend it.
