Did you ever hear if these ever will be published? I think I would die of joy if they were. I would love for Michel Legrand to know how many harpists are waiting for that happy day! 🙂

Peabody Conservatory has a growing Pedagogy department and offers a joint masters in performance and harp pedagogy. Taught by Dr. Ruth K. Inglefield (student of Grandjany).

I have a friend currently studying harp in China, I have heard it is extremely expensive to rent harps, hundreds per day. So make sure to talk to some chinese harpists before you go

I don’t know either, I will try to call them. I did it online, the denied it. So I filled it all out again and they just emailed me the denial email from before…… I am so frustrated. I will call them tomorrow. I am a member of AHS and have been for a couple years now.

Try to get him interested in harp, I had an 8 yr old student with a 5 year old sister, she is now also taking lessons. You don’t need to formally teach the sibling but give him a chance to try the harp then he might be more interested during lessons and have the older student play “for the sibling”. The older student can also go home and teach the younger what he/she learned in lesson that day, I think if someone is stuck sitting in the lesson they might as well be involved in some way. Just an idea!

You could also consider the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore MD. Dr. Ruth K. Inglefield who is wonderful and was a student of Grandjany. There is also a double degree with John’s Hopkins available.

I completely disagree. Someone who is under the age of 18 may have still had 13 years of lessons and experience, I know that most people don’t start harp this young but it could happen. I started playing gigs when I was 15 and although I charged slightly less than my teacher for gigs, she impressed upon me from and early age the importance of not undercutting other local harpists.

Obviously if you are too young to conduct yourself in a professional manner you should not be gigging but those who fall in to this category aren’t interested in playing gigs yet.

If a student is marketing themself as a professional and not playing/ conducting themself well at gigs word will get out and they will not be hired again.

I don’t know if this would work for a celtic harp but Camac has an interesting new dolly.

    here it is:

Although this may be a good “way-out” in some cases, I don’t agree with your tactics.

All throughout high school I played for weddings and parties in my area and was told by my teacher to never undercut other local harpists and that she would like me to charge almost the same as she did–about $50 less.

Although many high school musicians will do things for free, by encouraging this you are devaluing your own art. Most bride’s won’t be able to tell the difference between a well trained harpist and someone who has just started playing wedding music (assuming that the wedding rep for the occasion is fairly easy).

By telling people to find free musicians you are simply setting yourself up for more responses of “WOW, that’s expensive!” in the future.

It also needs to be said that in many smaller towns, sometimes the high school musicians are actually far more talented a better trained than many other local harpists. I certainly don’t want to sound pompous but it can get very annoying when self taught beginner harpists market themselves at lower prices to steal jobs away from those who truly deserve them and are charging a fair amount.

I am sorry that this turned into a sort of rant. 🙂
