I did see a silver metallic harp at the Vancouver congress. I’ll have to go through my photos again but I’m sure it was a camac electro/acoustic pedal. Could be wrong about the electric part but it looked amazing! πŸ™‚

    Hey Barbara,
I’m about to ask Andrew some questions about trying new strings on my harp. If your harp is folk strung, then he normally just strings them with Pirastro light folk strings so order them if you’re happy with what it is currently strung with. Is the problem you are not currently happy with pirastro strings? πŸ™‚

    Oh wow,
There must really be a demand on harps made entirely of carbon fibre. I don’t want to say it’s a shame that they won’t be making wooden harps anymore but the heartland wooden harps are so beautiful. It’s funny I feel like this as I am all for new technology.

    Hi Ian,

The site mentioned does indeed make western looking harps but I believe the one you are speaking of is a chinese harp called the ‘konghou’. There is one on that site with a dragon carved on it also. They are very beautiful in my opinion πŸ™‚ Hope that helps.

Hi Gillian, It sounds as though you’re being very hard on yourself πŸ™ It’s okay and perfectly normal to hit a wall on progress. It happens. Are you part of a harp circle or something like that? Maybe getting together with other harpists might help rather than playing on your own. I’m just trying to think of some ways you can put the fun back into playing.
The same thing happened to me whilst learning to play the piano. I got very bored and frustrated that I couldn’t read and play the music very fluently. I eventually learned that my learning style was to play by ear rather than reading music itself. What is your musical style? Perhaps you can talk to your teacher about your concerns also. I’m sure other harpists here will be able to give you far better advice than what I’m giving now. I’m just offering support in saying that you are not alone in the issue πŸ™‚

    Hi Georgina,
I divide my time staying between the Huon valley and Margate area. I love the tranquility of far south Tazzie but to go to work staying in margate makes it a lot easier πŸ™‚
You are right about the cold. I’m still getting used to it. But it’s so worth putting up with the chilly winters just for the gorgeous summers! Summer is just beautiful πŸ™‚

My harp itself isn’t actually blue at all, even though it has come up that way in the photos. The soundboard however is a dark electric blue. My harp is ‘Kameleon’ and in person it shifts from metallic violet purple to a silvery green. The downside is that you cannot capture it’s colour on camera.
You’ll have to play Phillipa’s harp for sure! That would be wonderful and why not? I mean if it’s just sitting there begging to be played. I’m glad to hear that Phillipa is loving her pedal harp all the same. I’ve never had a go on a pedal harp. Maybe one day as I am very curious about them.

I had a similar email with a car sale, My instinct was it was a SCAM! Your first reaction was that something didn’t seem quite right and my advice is that your instinct is correct on this one Pat.

    Hi everyone πŸ™‚

I have posted a pic of my new harp for my profile pic. It doesn’t quite show her true colours but you can at least get an idea.
Oh yes Georgina, World Harp congress 2014 here I come! It’s something to really look forward too and we will definitely have to meet up there. I live in South Tassie and have done so for two years. Before that I lived in Newcastle NSW but I just love it here so I guess I’m here to stay.
Deb, I have taken your advice and opened a photobucket account πŸ™‚ I havn’t yet posted any pics. I will let you know as soon as I do so. Oh and I just love the Dances with wolves theme. There’s beauty in simplicity, I have to agree with Leslie there. It’s just beautiful and so is the theme from a beautiful mind. I love that too! Thanks for the suggestions πŸ™‚ They are all to my taste.
At the moment I have been plucking out ‘Son of the Wind’ from the movie ‘The Silver Brumby’. It sounds beautiful on harp. I have also figured out ‘Blackbird’ and Mna’ na hΓ‰ireann (women of Ireland) – I can’t help but hum along-(I’ll have to learn the lyrics hehe) I’ve had to stop for a day or so because my blisters are bad! Can’t wait for my finger tips to toughen up πŸ˜‰

Hi Deb, Leslie and everyone πŸ™‚

I have not been ignoring you, my computer died and I’ve not had the internet so I’m very sorry for my late replies. I have had my harp for a week now and I just love her. She’s everything I dreamed of and more. Andrew Thom is a true magician. I couldn’t be happier πŸ™‚
(I call my harp a ‘her’ because I somehow feel strange calling her ‘it’)-If that makes sense? Anyway, I’m going to try and post a picture now.
Thank you all for sharing my joy πŸ™‚
