ParticipantThat’s a beautiful harp, Victor. My favorite-looking harp is the Camac Oriane in gold. That is a lovely-looking instrument. I also think that the L&H Petite Ex is a pretty little harp. Too tiny for me, but I think they are just cute. And though I’d never want to own one, I like looking at the Camac Big Blue.

ParticipantPat, please let us know what days you will be there when you know. I’d like to come and listen. 🙂

ParticipantPat, it never ceases to amaze me how unique each of us is regarding body chemistry and how it reacts to drugs. I also have mitral valve prolapse and have terrible palpitations. I tried Toprol 25 once/day (1/2 pill so really 12.5 mg) and I was so downed on it I could hardly move. Palps continued to go strong….okay off topic, but the thing is this. I played a wedding (flute and voice — this was before I played harp) and I had absolutely NO anxiety whatsoever. It was as if I were playing at home in my livingroom. Actually it was really nice. That was the only thing I liked about the beta blocker. I had to stop taking them. My blood pressure got so low I could hardly function — and it’s already low. I felt like I had been poisoned when I stopped taking them and realized how bad they make you feel. It reallyb depends on the individual/the drug, etc.

ParticipantApparently not, Erin. I thought so too. I was shown how to tie a harp knot for my L&H Troubadour by my teacher, but the knots on the Camac harps are different. Some people are saying they just use the same harp knot on all their harps, but I just wanted to tie the knot the same way the Camac harp came.

ParticipantAwhile back during a discussion on Harplist, a poster asked this information. I volunteered that I had just received a diagram when I purchased my Camac strings. I faxed it to him so he could see it. He made “improvements” on it — not sure what he did or how it is improved. I could figure out the knot from the original drawing that came with the strings, but here is a link to what he posted:

ParticipantAlthough I am in Michigan, and my harp was in the summer program at Interlochen, I am not familiar with the harp program there. I bought my harp from the Virginia Harp Center and was told that was where it was originally purchased for. I have been told the harp program there is a good one, but perhaps you could contact them and ask about it.

ParticipantMaybe you played on my Camac Athena. It lived at Interlochen for 2 years for the summer program, I think in 04 and 05.

ParticipantJennifer,
I noticed the same thing today, and I’m a real lover of the great outdoors. It just takes time for me to adapt to the cold. I remember my harp teacher being dismayed last year in the winter when I showed up for a lesson with bare hands. She said she can’t STAND to have cold hands, and I noticed this morning that it really bothered me to have cold hands too now. Weird…..I never noticed that before.
I have one of those hot wax things where you melt big chunks of wax and then put your hands in a few times into the warm wax and slip your hands into plastic mitts that are heated. I really feels GREAT during the Michigan winters. I think they sell them in the drugstores. I got mine from QVC a few years ago.

ParticipantBecause someone asked if those around 50 could walk to the top of the Eiffel Tower. That’s what started that part of the discussion. As if those who are 50 and over couldn’t do that. I’m 54 and can outrun several of the little chubbies I teach in the middle school who sit and play video games all evening. Nothing paranoid at all in this discussion. Just people who aren’t young chronologically

ParticipantYes, I use a Harp Dampit in my harp in the cold winter months when it is just too dry in the house — even though we have a humidifier going for the house and one near the harp. I keep a humidity sensor nearby to gauge the humidity. You need to re-dampen the dampit every day though.

ParticipantI hate the monthly payment on my harp for the next 5 years.

ParticipantI have cracking callouses on my heel that I sometimes have to glue together so they will heal. I use nail glue for that….weird but it works….but one thing that really REALLY helps is this:

ParticipantGeez, I wasn’t doing anything but asking questions about it. Why are you so defensive? If you like it, that’s real nice. I just wondered how you were positioning your harp on it.
You said it was fabulous….we are trying to figure out why and how. Isn’t this forum for education and sharing?

ParticipantAre you loading it on the cart sideways? By that, I mean are you putting the soundboard to one side instead of leaning it against the back of the dolly?
