Hey Rosemary, question….do the triple wheels really help on stairs? I just wonder about them when I see them. I think I read the trolley reviews in a Harpcolumn hard copy last year, and as I recall it was stated something like “always better to just carry up and down stairs rather than use a trolley anyway.” What do you think?

    Paul,

I also got my harp from Virginia Harp Center. They were most accomodating, honest, fair and forthright. I felt very nervous purchasing my harp from them, as I had never had anything to do with them — or any harp store — previous to this. I feel I got very lucky finding them. My new Athena Ex. came in perfect condition — shipped when there was a lull in the freezing weather so it would not be too stressed in the cold. That was in Feb. 06. The harp was 2 years old and had been used at Interlochen in their summer program for 2 years. They gave me an original 5-year warranty on it since it was hardly used. In Feb. 07 I took it to Tom Bell for my free regulation as they provided that too within 18 months of purchase and it needed some adjustments. They were just wonderful. Last summer, I was in Delaware and my brother and I planned on driving up to the Haddonfield store just so I could try different harps. I am fairly new at this and just wanted to play some harps — and buy some strings. I talked to the owner and he strongly encouraged me to come and play the harps. I played all afternoon, and he was so very nice and kind. There was a young girl in the store who wanted to practice but was on vacation with her parents. The owner took a 23 into a practice room for her and she practiced on it for a couple of hours. They are really really nice people.

I ended up buying my travel covers from them as a result of such super service, and I always buy my strings from them. I deal with other harp stores for music and accessories too, but the VA Harp Center is my favorite.

Very odd that it’s the end of discussion. You have made lots of comments about one of our regular, helpful posters. I just wanted some clarification on some of the aspersions cast upon one of our own.

Denise, please describe how Venus was a means to an end for her? It seems to me that if she wanted a L&H harp in the first place, she simply would’ve gotten it. How did the problems she had with her Venus enable her to get the L&H?

    Confused!

Kay, I sure do. I lean my right cheek against the soundboard sometimes…..sometimes I actually give it a tiny kiss after I play something that goes really well. I am finally getting to a point in my playing where I can just listen to the music and let it really sing, and my harp seems to really enjoy that.

I am off for the summer now, and I look forward to days and days of gardening and playing my harp. I also look forward to a week away, but I will surely miss my beautiful Big Daddy.

Becky, I can totally and completely relate with your obsession. I was fortunate to get an old worn out (levers and pegs) Troubadour I in Jan. 06 for next to nothing. I started lessons using that to practice, and within 3 weeks I had to have a pedal harp….became completely obsessed with harp and everything to do with harp. I knew I had to keep it quiet because my obsession was so great it was becoming obnoxious. My husband listened politely, but he was really involved in his obsession with Japanese swords. HAHA…..He is, however, a musician so when I spoke of my absolute NEED to get a pedal harp he understood. Of course I led into it…..”Honey I might be needing a pedal harp one of these days,”

LOL…it does sound like a tweeting birdie when you do that with Marguerite. Very cute.

Briggs is a little angel. He is a rescue, and was mistreated….seemingly pretty badly. He is beginning to be a very happy, bouncy little guy now….having a good life. This morning I got word that one of my oldest and dearest friends has gone into a coma from a brain tumor which is spreading rapidly. We were hoping for a rapid recovery, but instead it went the other direction. Briggs sensed that I was feeling badly even though my eyes were just misting and I wasn’t making any sounds. He came up, sat next to me and leaned into me. He’s a sweet little thing. And he falls asleep when I play the harp these days. He understands that the harp is off-limits to him, but he wants to be near me when I’m playing lately.

I wanted to attached a pic of Briggsie but was at work and couldn’t do it from there. Here he is. He was abused and was removed from the abusive home. It took awhile, but he is a really happy guy now.

Kathleen, that is a beautiful place you have, and I like the way your harp looks with that stand. Now to a doggie story….but not a harp lesson. I teach private voice. I got Briggsie my new beagle mix babe in February. He is now a year old, and he is beginning to get used to having a happy home and parents who love him. My voice student showed up Wednesday for her lesson. Briggsie hadn’t seen her in a couple of weeks, and he was so excited….running, jumping….silliness, and I said, “Briggs! Settle or you will need to go in your CRATE!” His ears went back, his eyes bugged out, and he immediately lay down and fell asleep at my student’s feet. (She loves dogs.)

Rosemary, I think the reason the cart fell apart and was stinky is because it was in that closet at the Salvi factory that caught on fire. That’s what I think!!

I like the ring…..the evenness from bottom to top. But mostly I like the ring and I like the tone. It’s a nice bright sound….but not too bright. It’s a cultured, beautiful tone. And it doesn’t weigh a ton…..I feel like I am working with the harp and the harp isn’t dominating me. And I like the way the pedals feel — very smooth operation. I just LIKE it. 🙂
