Thank you for responding. Tonya
That helps
barbara kraichyParticipantHello Jennifer,
barbara kraichyParticipantKatie, it is great to know what pieces have harp parts, but your choices can widen if you work from a piano reduction of any of the pieces your conductor wants to do. As another reply suggested, you can get someone to create a harp part, but you can do it yourself just by figuring out how to adapt a piano part. That
barbara kraichyParticipantThank you Alice for your reply. I am also a Florida Harpist and Jan Jennings and I are friends. That reply is awesome, but in Southwest Florida there are several string quartets, due to the economy, that are undercutting the harpists. They can just carry their instruments onto the beach. I guess they figure that $75.00 each is better than nothing! Quite frankly, I’d rather stick to my price and not lower my standards. I’d rather play fewer weddings (quality) than more weddings (quantity) and there are quality brides out there who want a professional harpist with a good reputation. As mentioned, schlepping a harp and the wear and tear on the expensive instrument needs to be taken into consideration when accepting any job. We are also getting competition from CDs of harp music, not to mention the numerous DJ’s who will play the ceremony, cocktail hour and throughout the dinner for the price a harpist charges for a ceremony!
barbara kraichyParticipantHas anyone encountered a bride that has hired a string quartet because she is getting 4 people for the price of one or two?
barbara kraichyParticipantI had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mildred and spend a couple of days with her in 1966 when she was guest artist with the Bergen Symphony in Norway. At the time I was harpist with the Arrhus Orchestra in Denmark and I was subbing for the Bergen Symphony harpist for Mildred’s concert.
barbara kraichyParticipantHas anyone been requested to play “alleluia” from Shrek for a bride? That’s a new one for me.

barbara kraichyParticipantHello Elizabeth,
July 22, 2010 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Another harp car post… but I have specific questions!!! #149792barbara kraichyParticipantI have a 2005 Kia Sedona. I love it. It holds my L&H 22. It’ll fit a 23 and there’s still room for a troubador. Plus room for two benches and a fold up music stand. Though I’m still making payments at least it’s affordable.
barbara kraichyParticipantI’ve been receiving such e-mails. Usually the spelling is bad as well as the punctuation. The first one I received, I answered and with further correspondence, I started to see “Red Flags.” I took the e-mails to my bank manager and was told it was a scam.

barbara kraichyParticipantThrough a music store, I found the soundtrack to Brother Sun Sister Moon. The clerk played the soundtrack and it was Dolce Sentire. It was a simplified version, but I recognized the melody. He was able to download the music. It has the melody line and chords, so I’ll have to listen to the accompaniment the harpist did. It is by Donevan!!! So, any of you harpists get a request for Dolce Sentire– that’s where it’s at!
Barbara Kraichy
barbara kraichyParticipantThank you Helen. I will try that
