Salvi Harps and Lyon & Healy Harps have announced a new line of pedal harp strings, Sipario BioCarbon strings, made from a bio-plastic derived from sugar-cane. According to Lyon & Healy/Salvi, these strings have a bright tone with powerful acoustic projection and sustain, and can be used on any pedal tension harp. The Chicago harp maker says that the new biocarbon product aims to increase string longevity and improve intonation.

“We have been wanting to offer our pedal customers an alternative to gut for some time,” says Marco Salvi, president of Salvi Harps and Lyon & Healy Harps. Salvi continues, “We were pleased to work with Aquila Corde Armoniche – Italy on development of the Sipario BioCarbon strings and are extremely pleased with the results. We did a soft launch of them at the World Harp Congress in Cardiff this past summer on several of our instruments available for trial, and they were very well received.”

The new strings are available in a limited-edition boxed set containing Sipario BioCarbon pedal harp bio-plastic strings from second-octave E to fifth-octave A, priced at a discounted rate of $169 (normally priced at just over $300). The strings are also available individually or in octave sets from Lyon & Healy/Salvi using the string selector on the company’s website.
