Willi Maerz has arranged Chopin’s Waltz, Op. 34, No. 1, or “Grande Valse brillante” for four pedal harps. Originally written for piano, “when performed by harp quartet, the pieces achieve their full zip and energetic rhythm,” says Maerz. (See more notes below.)

Chopin became acquainted with the Viennese waltz during a brief visit to Vienna. Although he was not very fond of the rather bawdy dances at the local ballrooms, he became very fond of the waltz and to this we owe numerous waltzes for piano by Chopin.
