Willi Maerz has arranged “Menuett in E Flat Major” from Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 for four harps (two lever and two pedal). This third movement of the symphony is playful and burlesque in character. Maerz says the piece “is never trivial and develops an almost glorious presence, which is preserved also in this arrangement for harp.”

This minuet, in its burlesque character, recalls the minuets of Haydn. The minuet, with its straightforward melody and the repetition of its last phrase (as if an echo in the mountains) is strongly reminiscent of Austrian folk music. Nevertheless, the piece is never trivial and develops an almost glorious presence that is preserved in this arrangement for harp.
