Serena O’Meara’s arrangement of the traditional English carol “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” is for pedal harp and any of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet in B-flat, alto saxophone, violin, viola, or cello. The harp takes the melody in two of the five verses of this energetic arrangement that also features interludes between each verse. At the time that this beloved Christmas carol originated during the Renaissance period, the word “merry” meant “great” or “mighty.”
