Serena O’Meara’s arrangement of Elder Joseph Brackett Jr.’s “A Shaker Melody” is for lever or pedal harp and any of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet in B-flat, alto saxophone, violin, viola, or cello.This famous Shaker “quick dance” has many names including “Tis a Gift to be Simple,” “Simple Gifts,” and “Lord of the Dance.” Aaron Copland included the melody in his ballet, Appalachian Spring.
