Serena O’Meara’s “A Joyous Christmas” is a medley of two cheerful Christmas tunes: Jehan Tabourot’s “Ding Dong! Merrily On High” and John H. Hopkins’s “Gather Around the Christmas Tree.” Together they make a wonderful piece to play at Christmastime. Harp 1 is written for pedal harp while Harp 2 can be played on either lever or pedal harp. Notes from the arranger

In 1863 John Hopkins composed Gather “Around the Christmas Tree.” Its harmonic structure and ending are very similar to “Ding Dong! Merrily On High,” whose melody was a secular dance tune from the 1500’s. After being used for various settings, the Christmas words and music that we know today were published in 1924.
