Note from the arranger

“Üsküdar’a Gider İken” (“While going to Üsküdar”) is a popular melody famous well beyond Turkey, especially all over the Balkan, as well as in Arabic and Persian speaking regions. The exact origin of this melody is not known for sure but the song is a love story that takes place in Istanbul in the 19th century in which a woman meets her lover, a clerk, in Üsküdar.
