Note from the arranger

“Hov Areq” is a famous traditional lyrical song from Armenia. It describes a man asking nature to help him console his grief. He turns to the mountains, fields, and springs and pleads: “Hide the daylight under the dark soil from an evil man.” The famous composer and Ethnomusicologist Komitas Vardapet collected Armenian folk songs and published them, including a version of “Hov Areq.”
