Astor Piazzolla composed “Milonga del Ángel” during the 1960s, one of the most prolific periods of his career. The piece belongs to his celebrated Angel Series, which also includes “Tango del Ángel,” “Introducción al Ángel,” “Muerte del Ángel,” and “Resurrección del Ángel.” The first three works were originally written for a play by Alberto Rodríguez Muñoz, in which an angel heals the troubled spirits of the residents of an apartment building in a Buenos Aires suburb.
