Note from the arranger
Of the first Danse Guirlandes, Scriabin wrote that it was “figures, crystal and at the same time iridescent, that grew, grouped together, and – refined and fleeting, delicate and glassy – cracked and throbbed, only to grow and soar again… there is a loveliness within them which is on the verge of pain.” Regarding the second Danse Flammes sombres he said: “This is very malicious music… it is the border to the path of black magic… here the eroticism is already unhealthy, a perversion, and afterwards an orgiastic dance… a dance on corpses.”
