Note from the arranger

“Skin the Peeler” is sometimes cited as a source for part of the slip jig “The Butterfly,” which is credited to the fiddler Tommy Potts. Potts played the tune on his album The Liffey Banks (1972), but there is some disagreement about how much of the tune he composed and how much was derived from other sources. Going back to Ryan’s Mammoth Collection 1050 Reels and Jigs (1883) “Skin the Peeler” had quite a different tone. In this arrangement, the two slip jigs are merged to bring out a more likable, melancholy and dissonant character.
