What’s so great about this set is the variety of different sounds and characters that the composer creates. I appreciate that she takes advantage of the special qualities of the lever harp, rather than just treating it as an inferior version of the pedal harp or, worse, the piano. Every gesture feels both native to the instrument and perfectly appropriate to the musical purpose of each piece.
