Automation, by Anna Dunwoodie, is for two lever or pedal harps. This piece was written to explore the wide range of timbres possible on the harp. Harp 1 features muted strings using chunky wool (affectionately known as “the caterpillar”) along with strummed passages, while Harp 2 contrasts with rolled chords and harmonics. Designed for ensemble teaching, the piece allows a group of harpists to perform the Harp 1 part while a teacher plays Harp 2.

Harp 1 range is from G below middle C to E two octaves above, with no levers required.
Harp 2 range is from G two octaves below middle C to A three octaves above, no levers required.
