Note from the composer

I wrote this piece during my residence as the 2025 Fermi Forward Discovery Group Guest Composer, a position in which I had the opportunity to write music inspired by the research being done at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) outside of Chicago, IL. Inspired by the eponymous 21-ton steel sculpture on Fermilab’s campus, Broken Symmetry meditates on the symmetries and broken symmetries inherent in the fundamental constituents of matter that give rise to our world as we know it.
