Note from the arranger

The traditional English lyrics of this beloved Christmas carol, “Angels We Have Heard on High” recount the story of the shepherds hearing the announcement of Christ’s birth from an angel and their subsequent journey to Bethlehem (Luke 2:8-20) in song. This arrangement is composed as a musical retelling of this story, without lyrics. Some playful imagination is added to envision in more detail what the shepherds may have experienced that night, though these details are not recorded in scripture. This arrangement consists of five variations of the traditional carol. The opening glissando in the arrangement cannot be played by a level harp as is. It can be omitted by the lever harpist, or there is an alternative given in the “Performance Notes” of the PDF.
