Note from the arranger
In 1917, Gustav Holst was living in an English village named Thaxted as he composed The Planets. He included a stately melody in the middle of his “Jupiter” movement. In 1921, that melody was set to a patriotic poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice. Ralph Vaughan Williams named the melody “Thaxted” and included it in Songs of Praise in 1926.
