Note from the composer
Tagträume (Daydreams) is a collection of four short miniatures, each inspired by paintings created by my colleague and friend Anna Maraike Walz. The pieces are dedicated to her and were written for her project “Music meets Art” which took place in June 2025. That’s also where I premiered them right in the middle of her artworks! What fascinates me about Anna’s work is the tension between structure and spontaneity. Her paintings seem very intentional and thoughtful, yet at the same time they feel alive and intuitive. You can tell that she gives herself room to explore during the creative process. Not everything is strictly planned from the beginning, but always had a core idea. That really spoke to me, and I wanted to bring a similar mindset into my own composing. So I gave myself a simple rule for each piece: once I had found a small musical idea, I would spend no more than 30 minutes writing the entire piece. I didn’t want to overthink or revise too much. Instead, I tried to stay spontaneous and work directly with what came to mind. Just like Anna does with her paintings. The result is four musical snapshots: small daydreams that are deliberately unpolished, open, personal, and built on trust in the first impulse.
