You might also want to try sitting in a chair with your ankles crossed and the harp held by your calves.

I agree with Tony- if you explain why a certain fingering is chosen (and are willing to discuss the merit of alternatives) the student is also gaining the ability to finger passages on their own.

If they are truly random errors and do nor reoccur in consistent locations or come up in other situations such as concerts (masterclasses?) how much do they matter?

Of course it can be the stage fright thing- not because you are going to shout or anything but because of the desire to do well for you coupled with the awful knowledge that you will notice each and every slip even if you don’t comment on them.

Hobgoblin (I assume this is the Bristol shop you are thinking of) has only a limited range of harps- the Stoney Ends are nice, but only one option.

Can you make it to the Edinburgh Harp Festival http://www.harpfestival.co.uk ?

There are not many harp shops in the UK which stock a wide range of good harps by different makers- but they do come to the festivals.

To stop the harp slipping off the stool you could try a layer of non-slip drawer liner or mat.

And do you find the War Requiem or Child of Our Time contentless beauty or believe they should not have been written because they are not pleasant subjects?

Brough levers are very elegant and said to work on wire though I have never seen this.

I would disagree that one cannot play a wire strung harp effectively with fingerpads- didn’t most of the players at the Belfast 1792 gathering do so?

Hopefully your teacher will help you: teachers are there for what you don’t know, rather than what you do.

Renting is very sensible as you will mature in your harp tastes and it will let you make a truly informed choice, with your teacher’s advice!

Does the subway have disabled access so you can avoid the stairs?
