Alyonushka is a girl’s name. It’s my understanding that the song is written about the fairytale “Alyonushka and Her Brother Ivanushka”. https://archive.org/stream/IrinaZheleznovaAlyonushkaLittleBrotherIvanushka/Irina-Zheleznova-Alyonushka-Little-Brother-Ivanushka_djvu.txt
I don’t remember where I heard that though, so I could be totally out to lunch!shoshanna-godberParticipantI started with an iPad 3 and ForScore about 4 years ago and last year I upgraded to the 12.9 pro. I love the larger size, but I do find that it is trickier to position to eliminate glare when playing outside. I’m always under cover, but I still find that the big screen catches glare in a way that my smaller iPad never did. It’s never a problem inside, and sometimes I’ve been very thankful to have the extra light from the screen to illuminate my strings if the indoor lighting is poor. I have imported some documents by scanning with an actual scanner, but I find that the files created by my scanner were quite large (mb wise I mean). Most of the time I make do by scanning it directly into the iPad using the scanner on the “Notes” app. After a bit of practice I think you can get pretty good results this way, and it is so much less work than scanning to a computer and then moving onto an iPad.
shoshanna-godberParticipantNot sure if you’re looking for more advanced music theory, but my favourite note reading apps are Flashnote derby and NoteWorks. They’re both geared towards children.
Shoshannashoshanna-godberParticipantWe should start another thread on group ethics:) You make an excellent point about copyright. Just to clarify, when I mentioned promotion I meant promoting the harp group so that other harpists know that it’s out there – not using the group as a means of promoting oneself. I was happy to find it and the Canadawestharplist through the Grossi threads. Thank-you for your work on the group!
shoshanna-godberParticipantBiagio, you might consider that these kinds of things work as a promotion for the harp group. I didn’t actually know either group existed until someone suggested that they had the file. Would I have joined even if I wasn’t looking for the Grossi I can’t say for sure, but I’m not sure why that motivation is so much worse than being motivated to get advice /support from other harpists. At any rate, I am happy to be a member of both groups for many reasons other than the Grossi, and I am glad that people were willing to share their knowledge both here and on the groups. I am sorry if I offended you by telling people that your group had the file; I was trying to be helpful.
shoshanna-godberParticipantSheetmusicplus looks like the best bet for shipping to Canada – thanks for the tip:)
shoshanna-godberParticipantThank-you Carl! Those books look like a great resource. I don’t suppose you’ll be making them available digitally at some point? I live in Canada, and between our weak dollar and shipping it’s becoming harder and harder to buy print books from the States.
In case anyone else is still looking, I just found the Grossi translation on the virtual harp circle yahoo group…
shoshanna-godberParticipantI agree that Darkroom isn’t as good as a scanner, but if you’re in a rush or don’t have a scanner available it works pretty well. You are able to take multiple pictures and then save them as a single pdf file. I’ve also used Darkroom to import pictures of a score that I already had on my iPad. Just like using the camera in Darkroom – it allows you to import multiple pictures at once so that you can save them in a single file.
shoshanna-godberParticipantI know this is an old thread, but if anyone out there still has the english translation I would love a copy as well! My email is sdgodber@gmail.com I’m part of the yahoo group, but I couldn’t the file either.
Thanks!
Shoshannashoshanna-godberParticipantHi Sue,
I’ve been using my iPad and ForScore for all my gigs for the past year or so. I’ve used it both outdoors and indoors and haven’t had a problem with the light. Did you try adjusting the screen brightness? Occasionally I’ll get an annoying reflection from a light source, but I find I just need to adjust the screen angle to fix that problem. I do also have a screen protector on my iPad – maybe that cuts down on glare… My old music stand light wasn’t bright enough to light up my strings and neither is my iPad – can’t help you there. I use a Peak music stand for the iPad, so it can be quite close to me, but I still don’t think it would provide you with enough light to play by. I absolutely love my set up (I also have a bluetooth pedal for page turning). There are so many benefits (easily changing/saving set lists, no more pages being blown around by wind etc etc) – I hope you’re able to find a way to make it work!
Shoshanna
shoshanna-godberParticipantThanks for all the ideas! I’d never heard “I took my harp to party…” before. Definitely worth a listen:)
shoshanna-godberParticipantThanks for the idea Brian-noel! I forgot piano in my list of possible instruments – that wouldn’t be a problem. I had a look online for the music though, and all I can find is piano/vocal/guitar books and one medley for three harps. Any idea how to find sheet music for harp/piano? Thanks!
shoshanna-godberParticipantDitto what Gretchen-cover said! Can’t wait to play it
shoshanna-godberParticipantLooking forward to it! Thanks Svetlana
shoshanna-godberParticipantI just watched the video! I guess that answers my question about playing it on the lever harp! Is it possible to purchase your arrangement?
