ParticipantI agree with Paul, one of my harps is a 101 year old lyon and healy style 18 and sounds wonderful with the lower gauge strings.

ParticipantI purchased a lyon and healy harp built in 1911, no strings at all! It’s sounding board is just fine. You should be ok. Am not sure how long my harp was without strings. Go for it!

ParticipantBeautiful, but heavy!

ParticipantRebecca, I would check with a harp tech in your area. He will be able to tell you the cost of repair.

ParticipantMy information came directly from a harp tech. sewing machine oil will loosen and not rust like WD40. You can put a few drops on an ear swab and gently go in back of the disc. The harps I have used this method on were build in 1910 and 1911. I would consider your harp rather new!

ParticipantDo NOT use WD40!

ParticipantDo you have any sewing machine oil? A few drops should loosen it for you!

ParticipantOh, I don’t know. I just had a harp built in 1911 re-done, it came out Great! You should do more investigating and ask an expert!

ParticipantI’m guessing this harp could be a single-action Erard harp made in London around 1810. Sebastian Erard might have made this one. I think it is Beautiful! A harp technician would give you more information.

ParticipantWhat a find! I am no expert, but this trunk would have been used to ship a harp. Either to the proud new owner or the harpist who travels the world. It is a beautiful piece of art and history!

ParticipantHi Felipe,
I would not purchase a cheap harp. It will sound cheap. I would say a Salvi or a Lyon and Healy would be your best bet.
