    I have been a musician for many years, but have yet to dabble in the world of harps, i was recently out for a drive during my neighborhoods bulk trash pick up day and noticed somebody had set this wurlitzer harp case out to be scraped, it is in rough shape but i took it home in hopes to find out more about it, i don’t know much about harps but i do know a bit about the wurlitzer company and was wondering if anyone can give me an estimate on the year of this case and if it would be worth restoring. any information would be much appreciated.

    What a find! I am no expert, but this trunk would have been used to ship a harp. Either to the proud new owner or the harpist who travels the world. It is a beautiful piece of art and history!

    I would want a very careful assessment of the case for sturdiness before trusting a harp to it and what restoration it would take compared to the cost of a modern case. I wonder if it is asking to become shelves or a cupboard as it is rather big to be merely old and useless, though someone with a larger house may have different ideas.

    it is somewhat sturdy, but i personally wouldn’t trust it to hold a harp, i’ve been calling local music shops and museums and they have told me it may be from around the 1850s, but they could be wrong. The only other one i have been able to find online is someone selling just the front door of the case on ebay for $1500 as a conversation piece, so i feel it would probably be worth it to restore it. but other than the one picture of it i can find on google i can’t find any real information about the case

    I also found one which sold in auction for £5. http://www.westauction.com/auction/432/item/19218 and note than no-one has yet paid the $1500.

    There are more old Lyon and Healy crates out there which are pretty similar.
