I misread that as “The Ferfect Food” and wondered what Holst was thinking when he penned that one.

The harp and guitar do go surprisingly well together. The sounds are very similar, but just different enough that they complement each other.

I saw some videos of a very good

I don’t name my instruments. Maybe that’s why they never come to me when I call.

I haven’t watched it much this season. Was it someone in the school band? I love how they just happen to have instrumentalists in the room ready to play whatever it is someone up and decides to sing. “I feel like doing some Philip Glass. Good thing our theremin player is here today!”

At least you could play in the woods and not be seen, a skill I’m sure many musicians require at some time or another.

It might also be good for students to have practice staying in time with another musician and being sensitive to somebody else’s expression while playing. A key to good chamber music is whether the players are listening to each other or just each playing their part, coincidentally at the same time as a few others.

I remember once where my first teacher, as homework, had me write out a brief musical phrase of my own invention. As part of the next lesson, I played some variations on it, using minor keys, lever trills, glisses, etc., as some

I had those locker dreams for a while, then the dreams where I’m back in college, have a final coming up, and realize I forgot to attend that class all semester. You know, back in high school I had this dream where our high school was doing a production of “Phanton of the Opera,” and while the curtain was coming up, we were running around confused as

My favorite is the hammerchord, under “more instruments” on his site. That looks like a fun thing to play.

If I get a pedal harp, I’ll probably trade my lever harp for a smaller, very portable one I could take on transit or carry easily while walking, in the 22-26 string range. With a living space of just over 600 square feet, I can’t keep a second floor harp around unless I give up the sofa (no, I’m not giving up the sofa!).

Blevins also makes 38 and 40 string harps.

I imagine not enough folk harp players want the extra notes enough for makers to make more harps with them. Also, many people play the folk harp because it’s portable and affordable, and making the harp larger does neither of these things. At least for me,
