ParticipantHi Balfour!
Happy New Year!
The Dusty String buttons are definitely easier and faster than tying the knots the normal way; however, when I use them, the strings seem to take longer to come up to pitch. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience?

ParticipantSorry about the error! Glad that you are here to weigh in on this beautiful piece!
Thank you for posting a video of Catherine playing the piece–so beautiful and instructive!
I love everything that Marcel Tournier wrote; he’s my favorite composer for harp.-

ParticipantI play a lot of Celtic music on my Dusty Strings 36S in maple. It has medium-tension, regular string spacing, and also has an ethereal tone that is perfect for this genre.

ParticipantJust saw this post to YouTube which shows two harpists test-driving the new Lyon and Healy Style 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dNA0yID_qg
What do you think of its tone? It sounds warmer than a typical Lyon and Healy grand, yet seems to be quite resonant, at least to my ears.Jerusha Amado
ParticipantIt’s good to hear from you, Balfour and Saul!
I looked up “Art Deco” on Google, and these are supposedly some of the characteristics that define the period: Symmetry.
Layered shapes.
Intricate line art.
Rectilinear [straight line] geometry.
Aerodynamic curves.
Metallic colors like gold and chrome. What a beautiful harp! I hope that someone who’s had a chance to play one will weigh in on its sound.

ParticipantHi Gregg,
Yes, it does, thank you! I am very impressed with its minimalistic beauty, and the soundboard design is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Would you characterize the overall design as Art Deco?

ParticipantCharles–You mentioned that Truitt levers don’t affect the string sound much when engaged. Are they better than Camac levers, in your opinion, or about the same?

ParticipantHi Balfour and Carol Lynn,
I am doing well! (Thank you for the well wishes!) I’ll email you both soon.

ParticipantI also prefer a satin finish. To me, the glossy finish detracts from the beauty of the figuring of the wood.

Participantjsmoir,
Thank you!
It’s great that “Classical Gas” made such an impression on your life! I remember it being the first guitar tune that piqued my interest. I was 10 years old when I first saw Mason Williams perform it on the “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”. I fell in love with the song then and never forgot it.
How did the harp come into your life?
Jerusha Amado
ParticipantI just played one of Brook Boddie’s Dusty harps (“Gabriel”) in the meditation garden of a local church for Holy Saturday before Easter. Another harpist was with me. While she was playing Brook’s “Upon the Willows”, the wind began playing through Gabriel’s strings, in accompaniment to the music. It was a lovely time of remembrance.
