HelenActually the auditions ended a bit ago. The selection process begins soon so make sure to select your pick! I had posted earlier about them, and the lack of harpists who had posted videos. When I posed there was only 1 person! At least now they have quiet a few compared to that.
HelenThat’s true, but I would also say that in addition to following a particular band/artist via their myspace you can also discover them via myspace/youtube etc. If i don’t know an artist exists how can I go to their website? I frequently find artists I’ve never heard of on myspace, youtube etc In fact, that is where I do the majority of my “discovering” now and I would guess a majority of the younger generations tend to find their music the same way (although I am not particularly young!) I “found” the two artists I mentioned above exactly that way. Owl city via youtube and Erin via my space. I could name dozens that i now listen to who I had never heard of before “discovering” them on these sites. I guess each artist has to decide whether or not social networking and or viral marketing via the web is profitable in their particular circumstances. I agree that it most likely would not work for everyone, but it certainly does seem to work for some!

I’m learning clocks now. It is quite fun to play and is going to be quick to learn I think. I don’t play in public but my brother was visiting last week and heard me practicing it. He couldn’t believe you could play Clocks on the harp!
I’d love to take a class with David Watkins. He (or someone who filmed him) has posted a number of youtubes with interesting techniques I haven’t seen elsewhere.
There have been many adaptations of popular tunes for the harp here are a few to get you started-(keep in mind most of these are generally for intermediate players with the exception of the Sylvia Woods books, but this way you’ll have an idea of the popular music available as harp arrangements.)

I take beta blockers for pvc’s. I just started taking it in June. My reactions to things make me wonder if a study has ever been done on clarity of thought, and reaction times and beta blockers. Or maybe it’s just that without all that adrenelin there is room for actual thinking to go on!I usually practice in the evening at the tale end of my morning dose about 2 hours before I’m due for the evening dose. After reading this thread I thought I’d practice in the morning just out of curiosity (not that I’m nervous practicing in my own home of course!) and I played much better. Fewer mistakes and with a smoother feel. This could have been due to mind over matter as well of course. So I’ve kept it up. It really does seem as if I play better shortly after my morning dose than I used to in the evening. Even though I am in no way nervous. I have rarely played in public due to extreme nervousness. It seems like with other instruments if I am nervous I can still play but with the finger slipping that goes on once your fingers get sweaty with nerves and the hand tremors…it seems impossible to play the harp when that happens!
And something unrelated to harps but I’ve always been a very nervous driver in the snow. So much so that I have to talk myself into driving in it, my fingers remain locked on the wheel, I sweat and I drive like a 90 year old. This winter we’ve had tons of snow and while I’ve been cautious I never seem to get that closed up feeling in my throat that panic causes, no sweating, trembling or gripping of the wheel either. After reading this thread I realized it is probably related to the beta blocker.

HelenI just discovered this artist on youtube. Her music is very unique. The sound quality is kind of poor in the youtube video, her voice is very muffled although the harp stands out. I checked out her website as well and her music is lovely.

I especially liked Zahyee and Comin from the black mountains on her Reflets Cd. I like how she has her cd’s listed and that you can listen to the whole songs, most people only post a 30 second snippet which is usually not long enough to give you a real idea of what the music sounds like. I’m hoping she comes out with sheet music someday!I have to admit to playing xmas music from September on. My favorite music! I have so many I love but my tops are- (in no particular order)
