You know, you might want to contact Sylvia Woods. She just moved there, has had a vacation house there for many years. I believe she kept harps in the house as well as having just moved there (I’m pretty sure that is the case). info@harpcenter.com I hope that is helpful!
I think this is terrible! I am so sorry for you. I live in a very small town and have often accepted gigs, as have other musicians I know, via email, without any problem whatsoever. I definitely agree that they at the very least owe you an explanation, and an apology. Very bad form, in my opinion.
Well, I am on the central coast of California, and we’re in a very severe drought. We’ve had temps near 80 degrees quite often, and not a drop of rain in sight. Everyone is panicking about water and fire danger. Fortunately, my humidity monitor in my music room is saying that the humidity for my harps has been fine! So send any of that unwanted precipitation our way! We need it!
I have the double one. I have used it in certain gigs where it is dark enough that one can light up my music, and the other the strings on my harp. That worked pretty well.
Wow, this looks like a cool harp! Janet, I am loving your arrangement of Nightengale. Is this an original piece, or your arrangement? And do you have your arrangement for sale somewhere? I was searching on line, and there are a number of songs with this name, and not sure which one this is, if it isn’t your original piece. So if not, and you don’t have an arrangement for sale, who is the artist? Thanks so much. Your playing is so beautiful.

I can’t speak to the Blevensong or the Blevin’s Encore. However I have had a little experience with the Dusty Strings Ravenna line, and I own an Allegro, which is the smaller harp of the Allegro/Crescendo line. A friend of mine in England had the full sized Ravenna. I played it, and thought it was a nice harp for the money, but didn’t have the sound of a solid wood harp. My little Allegro is an amazing little harp, and its voice has really matured over the years, and is bright and full. My instinct is that you would be happier longer with the Crescendo than the Ravenna, so if you could afford it, I would opt for the Crescendo over the Ravenna. Hope this helps!Ellen
Well, thank you again, everyone, for all your advice and input. I am happily dropboxing my music onto my ipad! I have learned how to annotate my music, and have ordered my foot pedals and stand. This is going to be such a great help to me, and was so much easier than I thought. (Might make a mac convert out of me!) You’re the best!
I have a friend who has an Ariana, and I have played it. While I am new to the world of pedal harps, having just bought a Camac Clio in June (I’ve been playing Celtic harp for over 20 years), I have found her harp quite beautiful. Visually it is grand and elegant. All the inlay keeps the eye busy and appreciative. In terms of sound, I find it warm, rich, and lovely. Working on some musical collaboration with my friend and her Ariana is part of what made me decide to take the pedal harp plunge!
well, I took the plunge and bought an ipad air! Scanning begins after Christmas. Thanks for all your guidance and support, everyone! Happy holidays!
Okay, that is super cool. I have to “export” it to pdf, but then I can have a file on my desktop that is ready to go. Pretty easy, and certainly easier than printing and scanning. Not clear what irfanview is. Is it a program that converts documents to pdfs? I looked at the website and wasn’t clear what it was or how to use it. Thank you so much for your expertise! And you really think 16GB is enough? Now I am pondering about wifi connection only, or to have the wifi with cellular…
Hi again, yes, I already have a drop box account, as I use it to share music files with friends in England and Wales. I was reading just last night about how you can use drop box for putting files on the ipad… it sounds pretty easy. Barbara, I am guessing the ipad cannot read finale files. That you have to scan them as pdfs and then load them in. is that right? I’m making a wish list and getting excited!
Thanks again, Barbara! The tip about increasing the size of the noteheads in Finale is brilliant. Makes so much sense, and so easy to do. I have so many, many files in Finale, so I’ll do that. and thanks for your tip about the memory capacity. I want to have enough. I’ll probably get a kindle app too, if this all goes ahead, so need space for my book library as well. I had been thinking I might need a 64GB, but it sounds like that is overkill.

Well, I started reading about forScore, and looked at the stand… this looks like an amazing set-up. I am definitely drooling. Might hit those after Christmas sales. I did some research on best tablets for 2013, and the ipad Air definitely came out on top, although the price tag is hefty. I did want to know, like most of us, I have a TON of music I would want to load on the tablet. How much memory do you have, and is it sufficient? Do you wish you had more? Thanks for your thoughts!
