Mighty Bright light

I think I have asked this before, so I’m sorry I’m going down this road again. For those of you that have the Mighty Bright light, do you prefer the single light or double and why?

Kay, the orchestra light is a specific model with a bar of several LEDs, this one:

I would at least go for the double if you want the small light.

EDIT I would go with the Hammerhead or Encore model if price is a concern (otherwise, there’s really no difference in bulk, if that’s what you were considering–they all have that long neck to deal with, so packing them up is going to take about the same amount of space).

I have the double one. I have used it in certain gigs where it is dark enough that one can light up my music, and the other the strings on my harp. That worked pretty well.

Thanks Barbara and Ellen. You know, I like the idea of the double for the reason of helping to light the strings if need be. There have been times that I was short of holding a flashlight between my teeth.

The orchestra light puts out a lot more total light than the double, I think, although I haven’t seen the latest version of the double, to be fair. In a dark room, the orchestra is pretty much like playing in a pit where your stand light is the only light you have, just a different quality of light.

I think Barbara is right. An orchestra light DOES light the strings, too.
As for the double, if it’s anything like what I have, and it looks like it is, (they didn’t have the orchestra one at the music store), those two little lights don’t even adequately light the music.
I use mine just for band because the venue we play in has weird lighting, and I focus both lights on the page that is in shadow.

So Sylvia, do you tilt it a bit so it will shine on the strings or does it just put out enough light that it shines on them?

Well, since I have both lights on the right hand side, and the weird lighting comes from the right, I can see the strings OK. It’s not dark in there. The light from the house lights comes from my right, putting the right side of the page in shadow from the harp being in the way. I doubt if this situation would be what anyone else is in.

I vote for the orchestra light, if you can get it. I didn’t know about it when I first went to the music store looking (I don’t buy things over the Internet)….and they don’t take things back at that store. Since band is the only place I use it, I haven’t gotten the orchestra one. When I’m in the opera pit, the lights are provided.

Double. My eyes don’t work well, but good lighting helps, so I aim one light at each page. For what it’s worth, I saw a picture of me playing a cocktail hour recently, and the light from the double was clearly lighting the strings, even though it was aimed at the page. I didn’t realize it at the time, but apparently the stand light served a dual purpose!

I have the small double Might Bright light and the Orchestra. The small one lights up your music and uses batteries only. The Orchestra light lights up the harp and music. It is also very easy on your eyes – no glare. It does not get hot because it is LED. The orchestra light is worth the money because you have the option of using batteries or the adapter for electric and the light is superior to the other models. The adapter has a super long cord. It comes with a tote bag. Cheapest price I’ve seen is about $40.00. I bought mine through Harp Connection. I prefer to support our harp vendors even if it costs a few dollars more.
