I’m not a professional musician of any kind, but the concept of professionalism applies in all fields.

ParticipantMy approximately 175 year old Stumpff Grecian double action pedal harp has a few of these horizontal soundboard cracks, and I expect it’s had them for over a century.

ParticipantNo, the tension would not be approximately the same between a .061 wound nylon-on-nylon string and .060 monofilament string, at least not if tuned to the same pitch.

ParticipantI highly recommend Aquila’s Nylgut strings, both for those who want to avoid dead-animal products and those who want the extra visibility of these bright white strings.

ParticipantI have dealt with Alun Thomas in a long distance purchase of a variety of parts for my antique pedal harp.

ParticipantI’ve never played one of the Bavarian-style pedal harps (with the curved soundbox), but suspect they make it a lot easier to reach the lower strings, especially for someone with shorter arms/height.
