Very rarely is repertoire a contractual issue – every once in a while, a client mentions specific pieces which led him or her to a harpist in the intitial conversation, and those I will always honor if I go to contract.
Here’s a method I haven’t tried, but have heard about:
Turn the music on its side, so that the lines of the staff resemble the harp strings. (I think you want to go a quarter turn clockwise so that the low notes are to the left.)
A little follow up – I’ve been studying my student very closely these past few lessons and have learned some things about her.
