ParticipantDennis…
You’ve probably already considered this, but since price is an object, have you considered building one of the Music Maker kits?

ParticipantI have to add that the Dusties are no more “produced in the masses” than are the Lyon & Healies, the Tripletts, the Blevins, the Stoney Ends, the Heartlands, the William Rees’s, or any number of other fine instruments.

ParticipantI have played a Crescendo (a friend has one, and my local music store also keeps one on the floor)…the sound is absolutely lucsious!
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantReally odd…I seem to be the only one who isn’t having problems with the brass strings.

ParticipantI’m curious as to why there is such a waiting time for the Dusty?

ParticipantThe place where the neck (and the dowels) join the body is not recessed.
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantWhile physics certainly isn’t my strong suit, I can tell you that the neck on my 26 string Bard (brass strung) is attached to the shoulder only by two wooden dowels (unglued), and is held in place by string tension.
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantI wasn’t keen on the double stringing idea at first, but it does seem to work.

ParticipantTo clarify, when people tell you to “tune your harp in Eb (or F, or G, or C, or whatever),” what they’re telling you is that this is the key you want to have with all the levers disengaged (i.e., “down”). In fact, it’s really not a great idea to tune with the levers engaged…it’s pretty hard on the strings.
For example, my harp is tuned in F.
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantIf you tune in Eb, when you play with all levers down (i.e., not engaged), you will be in Eb (or its relative minor).
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantLOL! (plastic)

ParticipantI really am impressed with this case.

ParticipantYou know, Dennis, it’s interesting that both you and Liam had trouble with the brass strings, while I haven’t had any trouble at all.
Audrey Nickel
ParticipantDuh…I forgot to give the link (it’s been that kind of day!).

ParticipantRe zither pins…here’s an interesting article on them from Wm. Rees (maker of the Harpsicle, as well as pedal harps).
