I Suggest you look them up on-line, look at what they’ve done etc. and see if what they do, their style of playing, repertoire… match what YOU want to do.

There are many excellent harp teachers out there, but an excellent teacher for someone else doesn’t necessarily equate to an excellent teacher for you.

I also suggest sending them an e-mail, get in touch with them personally, ask them questions about their department and themselves. It’ll give you a much better view of who your going to be dealing with for the next 4-5 years.

    Best of Luck

I totaly agree with the fact that there isn’t enough information out there about Salzedo. Ive read the Dewey Owens Biography, and a couple unpublished ones by some former students.
Have you read the compilation of articles written by him and about him? I think it remains unpublished as well, but im not sure. It was compiled by Margaret Hammel.

Personally, I would like to read interviews made to pupils of Salzedo.
I think a lot of Salzedo “myths” would be rectified that way. Besides, I use to love listening to my teacher talk about him and I think she really enjoyed telling me the stories as well.
There aren’t that many students of his out there anymore, and if something isnt done, that generation might be gone sooner than we think. 🙁

    Dear Mr Davis,

In Costa Rica we are all Salzedo trained. The proffesor there at the moment Ruth Garita is Salzedo and to my understanding all previous harpist have been salzedo trained

    Hola Yesenia,

Mucha suerte! =0) saludos a todos lo de la Catedra

    Dear Anja,
I am also an international student and i completely undersand what you are going through. You should contact the international student services at the schools you are interested in in the states. Some of them have 1 full scholarship available that you can compete for depending on grades and audition. Most of this information isnt shown on the websites, so you should just e-mail them and ask about fianacial aid for international students.
I wish you the best of Luck!!

    Dear Steven,
My harp teeacher in Paraguay had a camac for many many years and it did not age well at all. Jaquez the camac president said that it was bc the older versions of Camac werent as good as they are today. My teacher send his harp recently to the Camac and it was in such bad conditions taht they gave him a new one. I have heard new Camac harps and yes they are light, and sound qutie nice, but i wouldnt be to keen in buying a Camac since you enver know what will happen to them in the future.

    Dear Serina,
I have 3 cats, one of which does exactly what your cat does.(clims the sound board, chews the strings, tries to get into the harp etc) I think that if you spray some of that “pets off” (not sure the actual name) spray on the FLOOR, AROUND the harp… NOT the harp. the cat might stay away from your harp while you practice and at any other time for that matter.
Best of Luck… funny how many harpists have cats.
