Yes, look at the feet! I have a foot that comes loose regularly and it *rattles*. I don’t mind it, but it drives my husband crazy… I’l be practicing and he’ll come in and wordlessly kneel down, tilt the harp back, tighten the foot, and go back to the other room 🙂
It’s not quite that large a group 🙂 I’ve played with them before, and the balance seems fine… maybe I’m just loud!
I’d also like some kind of follow-up to Evelyn’s comment, if she wouldn’t mind… I just bought a pedal harp and insured it with Anderson (based, in part, on my teacher’s recommendation,) and I find this a little distressing. What ‘fine print’?
People Look East (also known as BESANÇON in some hymnals) is a beautiful, up tempo Advent carol. “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent” is, as mentioned above, often used as an Advent hymn, although it is really a Eucharistic hymn from the 4th century liturgy of St. James (the words, that is; the music is younger.) So if you play in Catholic churches a lot, it’s also appropriate for Communion!
One of the most beautiful Advent hymns, I think, is “O Heiland Reiss,” (O Savior, Rend the Heavens Wide.) It’s in the Dorian mode, and appears in Maria von Trapp’s “Around the Church’s Year” book as an Advent hymn. You can google search it and it will come up.
Foxes in Vienna has a very limited selection, and two and a half hours down 95/64 is the Virginia Harp Center. If anyone knows of anything closer, I’d love to know, too!
We used to own our ‘dream’ car, a Jaguar XJ12 in British Racing Green (we got it very used, of course… we are not Jaguar income kind of people!) Once I got the harp, however, and actually started having to transport it, we traded it in for an Element! I love the Element, it hauls everything, and it’s a good little car, but to go from (what I consider to be) the paragon of automotive beauty and style to… a box. Well. There were a few tears 🙂
Gosh, I don’t know the answer, but I’d like to know, too! I love hearing the Les Baxter Orchestra on the Retro Cocktail Hour 🙂
My little 10 y.o. niece told me I played so pretty she wanted to fall asleep… totally without irony. She meant it as a true compliment 🙂

Glad to hear it! With me, it is always a music stand. Asking me to bring a msuic stand to rehearsal is a sure way to ensure I’ll forget it!
