ParticipantSherri, I’ve friended you (I think!) but not sure how to pm you there? Perhaps it will come up later on. If not I’ll try to email you in a few days or so.

ParticipantHi Carol,
I got your friend request ok. Real easy…. all you have to do is go to your profile and you should see my hello on your Music Stand page. Then you can do a reply from there. Plus like you say, there’s always email! 🙂December 31, 2012 at 3:08 am #102126kathy-chanik
ParticipantI agree this new website seems more geared to pedal harpists, but that may be because there’s no longer an official “Amateur Harpists” forum. I had asked about that a while ago, and was told that’s because now there are now forums for How To Play, Performing, and Repertoire instead. Maybe if they brought back the Amateur Harpists forum more people who are not professional harpists or serious young students would feel comfortable posting. I miss that Amateur Harpists forum! We had some fun and fascinating conversations there. How about it, Kim?

MemberI was recently thinking that I like how all playing questions are now together by topic and not by the harpist’s status as a professional or an amateur. I prefer the current arrangement, though I can see the other view.

KeymasterHi all: thanks for your input. Our new structure was designed to be less intimidating, not more! The reasoning behind the new set up is that we didn’t want to make a distinction between lever and pedal, amateur and professional, because people might miss posts they could give helpful responses to. We felt topics like “How to Play” and “Repertoire” would apply to everyone, regardless of level or type of harp, and that way more people would see everything and contribute useful responses that would benefit more people.
@[[hugh-brock:User:Hugh Brock]] is not going to like me for letting this cat out of the bag, but on our “to-do” list is giving you the ability to create groups, which will all contain their own discussion forum. So if you want to start a group for amateur lever harpists that live in Antarctica and all own purple parakeets, go for it! I can’t say when we will have this feature up and running but it’s on our list, along with private messaging. Hopefully soon…
Keep the input coming! We’ve got more updates scheduled for the very near future…

ParticipantThanks, Kim, and happy new year to you and Hugh!

ParticipantI was just thinking that that’s a good point about not distinguishing people as amateur or professional, but just posting your comment or question under the topic instead. It makes us all harpists, and also it’s nice to be considered a part of the same group as Yolanada Kondonassis, Xavier de Maistre, and Kim Robertson…

ParticipantKim – I think we are struggling with the new layout since there are borders on the web page top, left and right. Before it was all in block and easier to read/scan but now the forum indexes, the headings and even the list of the forums do not fit on one page. With the entries set further apart vertically, with labels and links, there’s lost space between them, so one has to keep using the mouse to scroll down. One can’t easily scan the list of entries in the same volume as before, so it’s probably the layout that is hindering the ‘look and feel’ comfort levels.

KeymasterKathy: That was our goal–to simply identify everyone as a “harpist.”
Alison: I’m not quite sure what to say about the layout, since we have people using many different browsers which are all rendering things slightly differently. I realize it’s different and may take some getting used to. We do appreciate the feedback and want to fix problems that are really getting in the way, so please keep letting us know what is/is not working. We are reading all your comments carefully.
Thanks everyone for the input!

ParticipantWell, as far as I’m concerned, regardless of the differences between the old and new site, I greatly appreciate all the hard work that you, Kimberly, and Brock have done on this project. I can’t even imagine the hours and hours you two have put in on this, all to provide a service that’s free and accessible to all harpists everywhere. Thanks so much for all your hard work!
Cheers,
Andy -
