Rocky Mountain Springs Harp Program in hiatus this summer

The summer harp program in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for harpists age 13 and over, is suspending operation for this summer only.
The unusual combination of circumstances which led to this one-summer hiatus includes the extensive work which Christa Grix (Director of RMSHP) is doing to organize the American Harp Society convention in Michigan this June, and the unexpected illness and death of Olive Bernard, co-founder and manager of Rocky Mountain Springs Harp Program.

The Harp Program began in 2000 as a division of Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory. In 2007 it became an independent non-profit educational corporation under its current name. Scholarships honoring Lucile Lawrence and Dewey Owens are offered each year.

Significant contributions have been made to RMSHP in memory of Olive Bernard. The monies will be applied to scholarships and to an endowment fund. Thus we are quite certain that the harp program will resume in summer 2009 and continue into the foreseeable future.

For information about the program, or to get on a mailing list for 2009 brochures, or to make a contribution in honor of Olive (or Lucile Lawrence or Dewey Owens or anyone else you think we should be honoring), please write to

I am so sorry to hear of Olive’s death. While our contacts were limited, she was a dear person to me, and was part of a significant time in my life.
