Hi Balfour,

I wish that Carl’s new Tournier book had been published before I bought these pieces separately! Oh well, I’m so excited about it that I have decided that I need to dust off my semi-grand and get to work once the book arrives!

Jerusha,

I’m sure many people own some or most of the pieces that I included in this edition. But Each of these pieces has been edited to show the player how it is actually played. So I’ve removed the heavy burden of having to figure out all of that. I think when you start working on these pieces in this edition you’ll be surprised at how easy they actually are.

Thanks, Jerusha! When the book arrives, go to p. 16 and try “Offrande.” You will be amazed at how easy it is to read and play compared to the old editions. Then play “Berceuse russe” and “Cloches sous la neige”. This last one translates to “Bells in the Snow,” and if we are able to do Christmas concerts this year, this piece may well appear on my programs!

Thanks again, Carl. I have loved having this book during the “sheltering at home” period here in NC. May the world come out of this soon!

I must say the preface, all the background and supporting information on the Ravel and the discussion of options, corrections, tempo and dynamics with some easier workarounds are really helpful, plus the historical context WRT other harpists such as Grandjany is very interesting. BBC radio had an 40 minute focus on new and historical recordings of this work a month ago (although limited in the number of artists) and that got me back into the part. I suspect the presenter might have quoted directly from your narrative.
