I discovered the importance of having the music myself that my students
are learning. One of them forgot her music, and I think she thought I
might let her get away without working on the exercises. Not a chance!
I got out my copy and there we went. I had the other too, so we could
work on all the pieces, and had a very good lesson. I can’t imagine not
having my own copy now for anything they do. Unless it’s by Andrew
    Lloyd Webber. (Kidding.) (Not.)

I have experienced this myself, and you’re right. If you’ve got a copy, then the lesson isn’t thrown out the window. But be careful they don’t scoop up your copy by mistake and take it home!
