Met Orchestra principal harpist Emmanuel Ceysson has joined the faculty at Mannes School of Music as a professor of Harp. The school is part of The New School, based in the Greenwich Village section of New York. Ceysson’s position begins August 28, 2016.
“We are thrilled to welcome Emmanuel Ceysson to Mannes,” said Richard Kessler, Dean of Mannes and Executive Dean for the College of Performing Arts. “As someone whose practice spans work as both an orchestral harpist and as a soloist, and also with his deep interest in styles and genres across the performing arts, Emmanuel brings a truly unique viewpoint to his work. We are excited for him to bring this unique perspective, experience, and enthusiasm to Mannes”.
As professor of harp, Ceysson will teach individual harp lessons, and will collaborate on large-scale productions with Mannes and The College of Performing Arts. Ceysson will also “work closely with key Mannes faculty members to develop new opportunities for students, as well as provide mentorship beyond basic musical training,” said the school.
“I am honored to join Mannes School of Music, and help with the evolution of the future of music,” said Ceysson. “Mannes is in the heart of Manhattan, and as part of the New School, students are able to make bridges to areas of study other than music. I am excited to help the students develop new ways of looking at music, while combining many different kinds of performing arts.”
