I tried both of these harps at the Somerset Festival. I have had about 30 lessons over the course of 1/2 years and have a Christina lap harp so I consider myself a beginner. I plan to do harp therapy. My ear is not trained enough to discern the difference between these 2 harps. I would appreciate any information about the pro/cons of each. Thanks!

It’s amazing how music is entwined in so many relationships, going back even to childhood. Thank you both for sharing your personal stories. You were lucky to have parents that were able to support your interest in music at a young age and it seems that you were able to, in turn, honor them with it. I hope you can be comforted by that. May I ask the artist who sang “Farewell”? I looked up the lyrics and it seems there are a lot of songs with this title. Take care…

For a short while, before they disbanded. But then I had my Yamaha 365 (which I still have). I play off and on now with the East China community band. My friend Nancy played with me as well. Were you there too?

Farewell is the song in the Sylvia Woods Teach Yourself book. It is from the highlands of Scotland. I don’t know if there are any words to it. It is simple and beautiful. I played it very rubato and it still brings tears to my eyes when I play it. I’ll have to look and see if there are lyrics to it. The message it conveyed to my heart was to let go of my Dad, treasure the memory of him and have faith that he is in heaven watching over me. Another wonderful song that I just recently learned that reminds me of both my Mom & Dad is “Land O’ The Leal”.

That “Farewell” is the first piece I learned with two hands (a billion years ago!). I still play it at gigs a lot (repeated, of course). I’ve even had brides want it for their recessional, though I play it a bit more peppy for that.
