i have 2 harps both from Lyon & Healy

one is a shamrock lever harp with 34 strings, natural color & her name is Emily

the other is a style 85 GP pedal harp in mahogany, 44 strings & her name is Gina

they are both taller than me

I’m rather on the short side

I have 2 harps and a grand piano. I’ve named my piano Clare, my larger Webster harp is Arthur, and my smaller (but still full-sized) “dainty” harp with calla lilies I carved for the luthier to put on it I named Guinevere. 🙂

Hi Mia,
I guess people have to be friends first before they’re able to post something on your Music Stand. But they can respond to a blog posting, if that helps. Have you tried posting photos of your harps yet? You can do that here or on your bio page under Instruments.

Sorry I haven’t gotten back Sherri. Just saw your post now. The wood is birds-eye maple and quilted maple. I told the Luthier what I wanted and where. He and I matched the colors of the callas to the feet and embellishments. It was interesting to collaborate. 🙂 I was lucky I can carve and make a “one of a kind”.

BTW, these 2 harps sound amazingly similar in sound.

Mia, not sure what you mean about posting on a form?

On the previous forum, there was a thread about harp names, so maybe you were not there at the time. My Aoyama Etude is Nina (Spanish for little girl), and my LH 15 is Hyacynth (2 Ys because the first time I wrote it, I spelled it that way accidentally, so I kept it…she’s a special hyacinth)

It’s from a Middle Eastern poem:

If thou of fortune be bereft
And to thee alone two loaves are left
Sell one, and with the dole
Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.

Beautiful poem Sylvia, I’ll have to remember that one. Where did you find it? I like the way your harp’s name spelling came out. It never occurred to me to name my Triplett Luna (although I guess I kind of like the Luna part of the name). Maybe after a few years of owning it I should start thinking about names!

Hi Sara,
Love your kitty with harp photo! My Jasmine (tabby) plunks on my nylon-strung Paraguayan when she’s hungry (she can’t damage the strings) but definitely not allowed near my wire-strung Triplett! Those strings could hurt her if they broke, so I keep the instrument covered when I’m not playing it. What’s your kitty’s name? I have an orange male kitty too, looks just like that in the photo! But he doesn’t play harp.

I have a L&H Ogden lever harp.
Her name is Annina, which means “Beautiful”. And that is very true, as she has beautiful sound. 🙂
